About this treatment

Subcision is a procedure which loosens scars that have become stuck to the deeper tissues. When a scar forms, new collagen is produced, but scar collagen is not as supple or as neatly laid as normal collagen. Worse still, this new scar collagen can stretch all the way from the scar to the deeper tissues, like a web, and 'pull' the scar down, making the scars look indented and causing shadows, pits and divots. Breaking these connections helps to lift the scar back up and reduce their appearance. If you suffer from Acne Scarring (specifically, 'rolling scars' and / or 'tethered box scars) loosening up the scar tissue can help to greatly reduce their appearance. This is usually performed using either fine needles, cannula, or a combination of both. This is a very safe method for reducing acne scarring, with an extremely high satisfaction rate HOW IS SUBCISION PERFORMED? Subcision is carried out with a cannula or tiny needle, depending on the scar type. HOW CAN I TELL IF I NEED SUBCISION? If you have a lot of rolling or box scars that do not disappear when you stretch the skin, or they don’t smooth when you smile. WHAT ACNE SCARS DO NOT NEED SUBCISION? Subcision is not suitable for ice-pick scars. It is also not suitable for red or pigmented acne scars, stretched scars or keloid scars. WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS? You can expect to see results within a few weeks: sometimes the results of subcision are immediately visible. Final results are seen with in 1 to 3 months & the skin will continue to remodel for up to a year following treatment. HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED? This will vary from person to person, but you can expect to see an improvement after 2 sessions. You may need a further sessions, depending on your scarring and individual skin. IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME? You may be a little pink or sensitive for a few days, and there is a small risk of bruising as with any treatment that involves the use of needles and / or cannula. IS SUBCISION THE ONLY TREATMENT I NEED FOR MY ACNE SCARRING? Sometimes, subcision alone may be all that is needed. Oftentimes however, subcision will be part of a treatment plan that includes other treatments. This is because subcision deals with scars which are bound down and tethered, and does not specifically address the cause or surface of the skin. Other treatments such as chemical peels and / or micro needling can be used to improve atrophic scars and make the skin much smoother.
