Russian and Doll lip techniques build lip shape rather than simply adding volume. Both create structure, definition and lift — but they produce different results, and which suits you depends on your natural lip anatomy. THE RUSSIAN TECHNIQUE Traditional lip filler is placed horizontally along the lip body, adding forward projection and plumpness. The Russian technique instead uses vertical injections placed from the lip border inward, building height rather than depth. The result is a lifted lip with a more pronounced cupid's bow, a flatter profile from the side, and the heart-shaped appearance the technique is known for. It suits people who want definition and lift rather than volume, and who want to avoid a projected look from the side. THE DOLL TECHNIQUE Doll lips focus fullness centrally, building the tubercles — the natural cushions in the middle of each lip — while keeping the outer thirds more restrained. This produces a rounded, softly pouted shape with a defined centre. Where Russian lip lifts and flattens, Doll lip builds a soft central pout. Some people suit one clearly; often we combine elements of both. WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU This is decided at consultation, not at booking. Your natural lip proportions, philtrum length, tooth show and existing filler all affect which technique will work. If you already have significant filler in place, or if your lip tissue won't support the technique you've asked for, we will tell you honestly rather than proceeding. WHAT TO EXPECT Russian and Doll techniques use more injection points than standard lip filler. Swelling is more pronounced than with standard lip filler and typically peaks at 24-48 hours. Expect three to five days of noticeable swelling and possible bruising. Your lips will not look like the final result for at least two weeks — please plan around any events. Results typically last 6-12 months. Lips metabolise filler faster than other areas.
