WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY LESIONS?

Primary lesions are variations in texture and / or colour that may be present at birth, such as skin tags, birthmarks, moles, or something that appears over time such as those associated with infectious diseases, such as acne, warts, or psoriasis; allergic reactions such as hives, contact dermatitis, or environmental causes such as sunburn.

Secondary lesions are changes in the skin that result from primary lesions, either as a natural progression of the initial lesion or from picking or scratching the primary lesion.

HOW DOES THE CryoPen 0 WORK?

Essentially, the device delivers a stream of freezing nitrous oxide (-89 degrees centigrade) directly to the lesion, resulting in quick, safe, and permanent removal. Cryotherapy is the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by the precise application of extreme cold.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Healing occurs anywhere between 1-6 weeks following treatment. This varies between individuals, and also depends on the type and size of the lesion.

HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS OF CryoPen 0 LAST?

Removal of the targeted lesions is permanent.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

Around 20-60 seconds per lesion / area.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

The results of CryoPen 0 are permanent, however it can take more than one treatment to completely remove the lesion. We recommend a follow up appointment 4-6 weeks following your initial treatment to assess the area, and decide whether a further treatment is needed. Further sessions on the same lesion / area are charged at 50% of your initial treatment cost.

IS THE PROCEDURE ITSELF PAINFUL?

Generally, little to no discomfort is felt during the treatment. Occasionally, you may feel a little sting, and / or the area(s) treated may feel a little 'stingy' for a few minutes following the treatment. Occasionally, a blister may form and persit for a few hours. These are all normal, and nothing to be worried or concerned about.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?

It is normal to experience stinging following the treatment, and this may last from a few minutes up to an hour.  The treated area(s) may be a little sore, pink, red, swollen, and / or you may have a blister. There may be some weeping, and a scab may develop.

It is very important not to pick at any scabs that may form, as you may then develop scar tissue.

It is normal for the treated area to appear darker in colour following treatment. This is nothing to worry about and is simply the destroyed cells, as the healthy skin underneath regenerates this darker colour / scab will slough away / fall off.

Lesions treated on the legs typically take a little longer to heal.

WHERE IS THE TREATMENT PERFORMED?

We provide CryoPen in Cardiff.

WHO PERFORMS THE TREATMENT?

CryoPen 0 is a medical device, and the treatment is therefore only carried out by medical professionals who have undergone extensive training in the device and possess extensive knowledge of skin lesions.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T DO AFTER TREATMENT?

Do not pick at any scabs, or at the lesion itself. Leave it alone.

WHAT ABOUT ANY RISKS & SIDE EFFECTS?

CryoPen 0 treatment is extremely safe, due to its precision.  Nevertheless, like anything, risks do exist, and although rare, include:

 - Temporary numbness in the area

- Temporary blistering in the area

- Temporary discolouration of the skin

- Hair follicle damage

IS THERE ANYONE THAT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CryoPen 0 TREATMENT?

We may refer you to your GP before proceeding with any CryoPen treatment, if:

- You have impaired sensation

- You have impaired circulation

- You have any open wounds

- You have skin cancer

- You have hypersensitivity to cold

- You have any cardiac disease

- We will not treat any moles unless these have been assess by your GP and diagnosed as benign (not cancerous)

If you have darker skin, we may recommend coming in for extremely short 'blasts' asking only 3-6 seconds on each lesion, 2 weeks apart, rather than treating the lesion in one longer session. This is to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation which can occur in darker skin types. If you have very dark skin, you may not be suitable for CryoPen 0 treatment due to this risk.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

If we are concerned about your lesion at all, we will refer you back to your GP before performing any treatment.
