ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS & BOTOX CARDIFF: WHAT WE OFFER

Botulinum toxin is one of the most researched treatments in medical aesthetics, and results depend on using the right product, in the right hands.

At Sebastian Rose Medical Aesthetics we use only MHRA-licensed botulinum toxin products, chosen for their safety profile, diffusion characteristics and clinical track record. Our main products are Azzalure and Alluzience, both supplied by Galderma, which we have chosen based on our clinical experience. We also offer Bocouture (Merz), which may suit patients who have developed antibodies to other products, and Botox (Allergan) on request.

We do not use Dysport or Xeomin for aesthetic treatment, as they are not licensed for cosmetic use in the UK. We also do not currently offer Relfydess, a newer product we are monitoring while more real-world data becomes available. Read our blog post on Relfydess.

Our Botox treatments range from classic anti-wrinkle injections to Alluzience for longer-lasting results, Microtox for Korean glass skin, advanced treatments such as the lip flip and jaw slimming, and medical treatments for hyperhidrosis, bruxism, blepharospasm, migraine and hay fever.

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, so a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber is required before your first treatment. We will never administer a prescription treatment without one.

OUR BOTOX TREATMENTS EXPLAINED

Botulinum toxin is one of the most clinically versatile prescription medicines available, and anti-wrinkle injections are only a fraction of what it can do. At Sebastian Rose we offer classic, advanced and medical botulinum toxin treatments, each assessed, prescribed and delivered by GMC or NMC-registered medical professionals with the clinical background to treat safely.

Anti-wrinkle injections with Azzalure

Azzalure is one of the most established botulinum toxin products in the UK, with over a decade of clinical use. It is an MHRA-licensed prescription medicine, manufactured by Ipsen and distributed in the UK by Galderma. As a Galderma partner, we have direct access to authenticated, verified product.

Azzalure temporarily blocks the nerve signals that make targeted facial muscles contract, softening expression lines and reducing the repeated movement that deepens them over time. Treatment takes around 15 minutes with no downtime. Results typically appear within three to five days, reach full effect at around three weeks and last three to four months on average. With regular treatment, many patients find results last progressively longer.

Alluzience: longer-lasting anti-wrinkle treatment

Alluzience is a ready-to-use liquid botulinum toxin type A. Because it does not need mixing before use, each dose is consistent. Galderma's clinical data show results lasting up to six months, compared with three to four months for many standard products. Most patients notice results within two to three days, with full effect by around day seven. Read more about Alluzience in Cardiff.

Advanced aesthetic Botox

Beyond the classic areas, carefully placed botulinum toxin can refine and contour the face and neck:

Lip flip: gently rolls the upper lip outward for a fuller look without filler.

Gummy smile: relaxes the muscles that cause excessive gum exposure, creating a more balanced smile.

Non-surgical nose refinement: small doses can lift a drooping nose tip, which can make a nasal hump appear less prominent in the right patient, and nose slimming and nostril flare treatments can soften the width and flare of the nose.

Nefertiti lift: injections along the jawline and into the platysmal bands of the neck define the jaw, smooth neck bands and restore a more youthful lower face and neck contour, without surgery or downtime.

Jaw slimming (masseter): gradually slims a square jaw for a softer, more oval face shape.

TrapTox: treats the trapezius muscle for a longer, more elegant neckline and less neck and shoulder tension.

Also available: brow lift, bunny lines, smoker's lines, under-eye jelly roll, dimpled chin, downturned mouth corners and facial asymmetry correction.

Not everyone is suitable for every treatment, and a clinical assessment always comes first.

Microtox (Korean skin botox)

Microtox uses highly diluted botulinum toxin injected into the skin rather than the muscle, targeting the structures behind enlarged pores, excess oil and uneven texture. It does not freeze expression. Results develop over seven to fourteen days and typically last three to four months.

Microtox works best on healthy skin. The patients who get the most from it already cleanse correctly, use a medical-grade retinoid and wear SPF daily. If that foundation is not yet in place, we will recommend building it first. Read more about Microtox in Cardiff.

Medical and specialist Botox

Botulinum toxin has many medical uses, and our prescribers can assess and treat:

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching (bruxism)
Injections into the masseter muscle reduce the force of involuntary clenching and grinding, helping to protect teeth and ease jaw pain, and can gradually slim the lower face as an added benefit.

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
Injections into the underarms, face and, where suitable, palms or soles block the nerve signals that trigger sweat glands, significantly reducing sweating for around six to twelve months. It is an effective option for people who have not responded to topical treatments. Read more about hyperhidrosis treatment.

Chronic migraine
Botulinum toxin is recommended in NICE guidance for adults with chronic migraine (15 or more headache days a month) who have not responded to other preventive treatments. Treatment involves multiple injection sites across the head and neck, repeated around every twelve weeks. A letter from your GP confirming your diagnosis is required, and response varies between patients.

Blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, facial tics and dystonia
Involuntary eyelid twitching, facial spasms and tics can respond well to precisely placed injections, providing sustained relief and comfort.

Eyelid ptosis
Assessed individually at consultation.

Aller-tox (hay fever)
Botulinum toxin placed within the nasal passages to reduce allergic rhinitis symptoms, often for the whole hay fever season, without daily tablets or sprays. Read more about Aller-tox in Cardiff.

BOTOX BRANDS: WHAT'S LICENSED IN THE UK

The botulinum toxin products currently licensed in the UK for aesthetic use are Alluzience, Azzalure, Bocouture, Botox, Letybo, Nuceiva and Relfydess.

They must be prescribed by a UK-registered prescriber and supplied through regulated pharmacy supply chains.

Alluzience (Galderma): used at Sebastian Rose
Azzalure (Galderma): used at Sebastian Rose
Bocouture (Merz Aesthetics): used at Sebastian Rose if we suspect a patient may have developed antibodies to other products; we will explain this in person if it applies to you
Botox (Allergan): available on request
Letybo (Croma/Hugel): not used at Sebastian Rose
Nuceiva (Evolus): not used at Sebastian Rose
Relfydess (Galderma): not currently used at Sebastian Rose while we monitor real-world data, as we do not currently believe it offers any further benfit beyond that offer by Azzalure and / or Alluzience, and it is also subject to additional monitoring whilst it is in it's early release. (We have written a blog post on this).

Dysport and Xeomin are licensed in the UK for medical uses, not for cosmetic treatment. Dysport is the therapeutic version of Azzalure, and Xeomin is the therapeutic version of Bocouture. We do not use either for aesthetic treatment.

UNLICENSED AND ILLEGAL BOTOX IN THE UK

Despite clear regulations, unlicensed botulinum toxin products are being illegally imported and used in the UK.

In summer 2025, the UK Health Security Agency reported dozens of botulism cases in England linked to cosmetic injections, with most patients having received products not licensed for use in the UK and several needing intensive care. We have had patients present to our clinic, whom we have had to help, after they have had illegal / black / grey market botox elsewhere - which may well not have been botox at all. These are usually people who have been chasing after lower prices, cheap 'deals', 'model deals', 'social media' . . . and never see a prescriber in person (may we remind you, if you have botox without ever seeing a registered GMC / NMC prescriber, that botox is illegal and / or black market).

Unlicensed brands found in the UK include Botulax, Rentox, Innotox, Toxpia, Meditoxin, Nabota, Neuronox, Coretox, Relatox, Reotox, Cunox and BTXA, along with counterfeit and unbranded products.

WHY THIS MATTERS — THE DANGERS OF BLACK MARKET BOTOX

Not MHRA-approved for cosmetic use

Sourced outside legitimate pharmaceutical distribution — storage, handling and authenticity cannot be verified

Risk of counterfeit, contaminated, diluted, expired or improperly stored product

No UK batch traceability or MHRA Yellow Card adverse event reporting

Illegal prescribing — botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine requiring a UK-registered independent prescriber

Not sourced from GPhC-registered UK pharmacies

No product liability insurance — patients have no legal recourse if complications arise

Criminal offence — supply of unlicensed botulinum toxin carries up to two years imprisonment and unlimited fines under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012

Life-threatening complications — 41 individuals left seriously ill, 8 requiring intensive care in summer 2025

HOW TO SPOT ILLEGAL BOTOX

Be cautious if:

Prices are far lower than established medical clinics

The practitioner will not tell you which licensed brand they use

Korean or Chinese brands, or "pharmaceutical grade from abroad", are mentioned

Treatment is offered at home, in a hotel, salon or mobile setting

The practitioner is not registered with the GMC, NMC, GDC or GPhC

There is no face-to-face consultation or medical history

The brand is not on the UK licensed list above

No prescription is issued

Prices are "DM only" or cash only

Batch numbers, expiry dates or the pharmacy source cannot be shown

Dysport or Xeomin is offered for cosmetic wrinkle treatment (we hear of this one especially, quite often!)

WHY WE ONLY USE MHRA-LICENSED PRODUCTS

Patient safety comes first. Our botulinum toxin products are MHRA-licensed, sourced from GPhC-registered UK pharmacies, prescribed by GMC or NMC-registered medical professionals, fully traceable by batch number and expiry date, and covered by our clinical indemnity insurance. You deserve to know exactly what is being injected, where it came from and who prescribed it.

BOTOX FAQs

Where can I get Botox in Cardiff?

Sebastian-Rose Medical Aesthetics offers Botox and anti-wrinkle injections at 39 Charles Street, Cardiff city centre, CF10 2GB, for patients across Cardiff and South Wales. Treatments are prescribed and performed by GMC or NMC-registered medical professionals using MHRA-licensed products.

How much does Botox cost in Cardiff?

Anti-wrinkle injections at Sebastian-Rose cost £150 for 1 area, £180 for 2 areas and £220 for 3 areas. Advanced treatments start from £99, Alluzience from £199, and medical treatments such as hyperhidrosis and teeth grinding from £210. A £50 deposit secures your booking.

Which Botox brands do you use? Our main products are Azzalure and Alluzience, both MHRA-licensed for aesthetic use and supplied by Galderma. Bocouture and Botox (Allergan) are available on request.

How long does Botox last?

Azzalure typically lasts three to four months. Alluzience can last up to six months. Microtox usually lasts three to four months, and masseter and trapezius treatments four to six months. Results vary from person to person.

How soon will I see results?

Anti-wrinkle injections usually start working within three to ten days, with full results at around two to three weeks. Masseter and trapezius treatments develop gradually over four to six weeks.

What is the 4-hour rule after Botox?

For the first four hours after anti-wrinkle injections, stay upright, don't lie down, and don't rub or press the treated areas, so the product stays where it was placed. We also advise avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for the rest of the day.

Is Botox painful?

We use ultra-fine needles, and most patients describe minimal discomfort. The appointment itself takes around fifteen minutes.

Do I need a consultation before Botox?

Yes. Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, so a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber is required at least 48 hours before your first treatment. In-clinic treatment consultations are free, with a £50 deposit that is deducted in full from your treatment.

Who cannot have Botox?

Botulinum toxin is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, taking certain antibiotics such as aminoglycosides, have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, or are sensitive to any product ingredient.

What are anti-wrinkle injections used for?

Standard areas are frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. Advanced aesthetic uses include Microtox, TrapTox, jaw slimming, the Nefertiti lift, gummy smile, lip flip, brow lift, nose slimming, nose tip lift, nostril flare, bunny lines, smoker's lines, under-eye jelly roll, dimpled chin and downturned mouth corners. Medical uses include chronic migraine, hyperhidrosis, teeth grinding, blepharospasm, facial tics, hemifacial spasm and hay fever (Aller-tox).

How many areas do I need?

Frown lines count as 1 area, forehead lines as 2 areas and crow's feet as 1 area (both eyes together). Most patients treat all three for balanced results. The forehead is not treated on its own without the frown lines, because relaxing only the forehead can leave the brows looking heavy. We will advise on the right combination for your anatomy.

What is a lip flip?

A small amount of botulinum toxin just above the upper lip lets the lip gently roll outward, so it looks fuller without filler. Results last around six to eight weeks, and it can be combined with lip filler.

What is jaw slimming?

Botulinum toxin in the masseter muscle gradually reduces its size over four to six weeks, softening a square jaw into a slimmer, more oval shape. It can also ease jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Results last four to six months and often improve with repeat treatment.

What is the Nefertiti lift?

The Nefertiti lift uses botulinum toxin along the jawline and in the platysmal bands of the neck to define the jaw, smooth neck bands and restore a more youthful lower face and neck contour, without surgery.

What is TrapTox?

TrapTox treats the trapezius muscle across the upper back and shoulders, creating a longer, more elegant neckline and easing neck and shoulder tension. Results typically last three to four months, and dosing depends on your anatomy.

How long does treatment take?

Around fifteen minutes, much of it spent completing your consent form.

What should I do before my appointment?

Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen and aspirin for 24 hours before treatment where medically safe, and arrive without make-up if possible. Your prescription consultation must be completed at least 48 hours before your first treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?

Small raised bumps or redness at injection sites are normal and settle within minutes to an hour. Stay upright for four hours, avoid touching the treated area for the rest of the day, and avoid exercise for 24 hours. Gently moving the treated muscles for the first ten minutes, such as frowning and smiling, can help.

What aftercare should I follow?

Do stay upright for four hours and follow your written aftercare. Do not touch or massage the treated areas, apply make-up for six hours, exercise vigorously for 24 hours, lie flat for four hours, or have facial treatments for two weeks.

What are the risks of anti-wrinkle injections?

In experienced medical hands, anti-wrinkle injections have a well-established safety record. We have performed thousands of treatments and train other medical practitioners in these techniques. Common, temporary effects include pinprick redness, small bumps at injection sites and occasional minor bruising. Less common effects include a drooping brow or eyelid, or brow asymmetry, which are usually temporary. These risks are reduced through careful assessment, precise technique and conservative dosing.

The brand name is not on the seven MHRA-licensed aesthetic list

You are told "it's the same as Botox" or "it's what they use in Korea"

WHAT IS MICROTOX / KOREAN SKIN BOTOX?

Microtox — also called Skin Botox or Korean Glass Skin Botox — uses highly diluted botulinum toxin injected superficially into the skin rather than the underlying muscles. This targets the sebaceous glands and superficial musculature responsible for enlarged pores, excess oil production and skin texture irregularities. The result is refined pores, controlled sebum, improved skin texture and the luminous glass-skin effect associated with Korean aesthetics — without affecting facial expression or muscle movement. Results typically last three to four months.

WHAT IS TRAPTOX — BARBIE BOTOX?

TrapTox involves injecting botulinum toxin into the trapezius muscle across the upper back and shoulders. This creates a visually elongated, more elegant neckline and shoulder contour, reduces chronic neck and shoulder tension, and can provide significant relief from trapezius-related headaches. Results typically last three to four months. Correct dosing based on individual anatomy is essential — a consultation is required before treatment.

WHAT IS THE NEFERTITI LIFT?

platysmal bands of the neck to lift and define the lower face, smooth neck bands and restore a more youthful jaw and neck contour — without surgery or downtime. Named after the Egyptian queen renowned for her elongated, elegant neck, it is one of the most effective non-surgical jawline treatments available.

WHAT IS A LIP FLIP?

A lip flip uses a small amount of botulinum toxin injected into the orbicularis oris muscle just above the upper lip, causing the lip to gently roll outward and appear fuller — without adding volume through filler. It is subtle, natural and ideal for patients wanting slight enhancement rather than visible augmentation. Results last six to eight weeks. It can be combined with lip filler for a more pronounced result.

WHAT IS JAWLINE SLIMMING / MASSETER REDUCTION?

Botulinum toxin injected into the masseter muscle gradually reduces its size over four to six weeks, creating a slimmer, softer lower face and a more V-shaped or oval facial profile. It also significantly reduces the symptoms of bruxism and jaw clenching. Results last four to six months and progressively improve with repeated treatment as the muscle naturally reduces in activity over time.

WHAT IS BOTOX FOR MIGRAINES IN CARDIFF?

Botulinum toxin is an MHRA-approved treatment for chronic migraine — defined as fifteen or more headache days per month. Treatment involves multiple precisely placed injections across the head and neck and typically reduces migraine frequency significantly within the first treatment cycle. A written letter from your GP confirming a migraine diagnosis is required before treatment can proceed. Results are unpredictable and we follow the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines - though we have excellent results with most of our patients, botox for migraines can 'fail', as the pathway is not 100% established.

HOW DO ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS WORK?

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks nerve signals to targeted facial muscles, reducing the movement that causes expression lines and wrinkles to form and deepen over time. For Microtox, superficial injection targets oil glands and pore-associated structures rather than deep muscles, improving skin quality without affecting facial expression.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Anti-wrinkle injections typically begin working within three to ten days, with full results visible at twenty-one days.

Microtox results often appear within seven to ten days.

Advanced treatments such as masseter reduction and TrapTox develop gradually over four to six weeks as the targeted muscles reduce in size and activity.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

Azzalure

Three to four months. However, Patients may 'feel' it lasts longer, though the clinical effects have 'worn off' - this is typically due to good muscle and skin tone in these patients.

Alluzience

Clinically proven to last up to six months.

Microtox / Korean Skin Botox

Three to four months Masseter Reduction / TrapTox: four to six months, improving progressively with repeated treatment

Hyperhidrosis

Six to twelve months

Migraines

Treatment cycles are typically every twelve weeks.

Regular treatments help maintain and improve outcomes over time, and many patients find they can extend time between appointments as treatment continues.

HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT TAKE?

About fifteen minutes. And most of that is spent completing the consent form.

IS BOTOX PAINFUL?

We use ultra-fine specialised needles and expert injection technique to ensure treatment is as comfortable as possible. The majority of patients report minimal to no discomfort.

Many clients who have experienced discomfort at other clinics report that treatment at Sebastian Rose is significantly more comfortable.

HOW MANY AREAS DO I NEED?

Standard treatment areas are:

Frown lines (glabella)

1 area

Forehead lines

2 areas

Crow's feet

1 area (both eyes treated together)

Most patients treat all three areas together for balanced, natural results.

Important: The forehead cannot be treated in isolation without also treating the frown lines. Treating the forehead alone removes the elevator muscle function without balancing the depressor muscles, which creates a heavy, dropped brow appearance, hence the reason we treat the 'two areas' for the forehead.

We will always advise you on the correct combination for your anatomy at consultation.

Advanced treatments — Microtox, TrapTox, masseter reduction, medical applications — are priced separately based on treatment area and clinical complexity.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX COST IN CARDIFF?

How much should 3 areas of Botox cost?
At Sebastian-Rose, anti-wrinkle injections for 3 areas cost £220. The three areas are usually the forehead, the frown lines between the eyebrows and the crow's feet. Prices vary between clinics, so check that yours includes a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber and a review.

Anti-wrinkle injections from £99

All prices are available on our pricing page. Prices may change accordingly, and the price on checkout is the price you pay - guaranteed.

All prices are published transparently.

We do not operate a "DM for prices" model.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment Avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for 24 hours before treatment

Arrive without makeup if possible

Ensure your consultation has been completed at least 48 hours before your first botulinum toxin treatment — this is a legal prescription requirement

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

Immediately after injection, treated areas may show minor redness or small raised bumps at injection sites — this resolves within minutes to one hour and is completely normal.

Results then develop gradually over the following seven to twenty-one days depending on treatment type.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a true lunchtime treatment.

You must remain upright for 4 hours following treatment, avoid touching the treated area for the rest of the day, and avoid exercise for 24 hours. Moving the treated muscles for the initital ten minutes after treatment is also beneficial - we often advise our patients to reptitively smile and frown as they leave the clinic!

Stay upright for four hours after treatment

DO NOT
