WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel facial exfoliates, and loosens the top layers of dead skin cells in order to stimulate the body’s natural renewal and healing process.  This results in healthier, more luminous skin, which allows for better penetration of your skincare products.

CHEMICAL PEEL FAQ'S

WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel is a minimally invasive procedure that helps improve the appearance of the skin. During the procedure, your medical practitioner carefully applies combinations of powerful solutions to the face, décolletage (neck and chest), or hands to remove dead skin cells. The solutions penetrate into the skin, causing dead skin cells to peel off. The new skin is smoother.

WHICH PEEL IS RIGHT FOR ME?

There are many types of chemical peel preparations, and the right preparation for you depends on your skin type and desired results. Broadly speaking, they can be broken down into their 'depth' - i.e, the depth that the product penetrates into the layers of the skin, and which peel is right for you is based on your current skin, any conditions, and what you are looking to achieve. If you are unsure, we would recommend booking in for a consultation.

LIGHT PEELS

- OBAGI Blue Peel Radiance

- THERADERM Light Peel

No flaking or peeling. No downtime.

Great for instant radiance, reducing uneven skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, stimulate collagen and brighten overall complexion.

MID-DEPTH PEEL

- THERADERM Jesser's (Clarifying) Peel

Expect 3-7 days of peeling.

Treats a variety of skin conditions including photo-damage, sun-damage, excessive oil, large pores, acne, acne-scarring, hyperpigmentation and reducing moderate lines and wrinkles.

MEDIUM TO DEEP PEEL

- THERADERM Frost Peel

Expect 5-10 days of peeling.

Ideal for those who have had other peel treatments and now require a deeper peel for more effective results. A Pre-Procedure and Post-Procedure System has mandatory when having this peel.

Chemical peels in general can also improve other skin problems, including:

Acne
Freckles
Facial scars

Rough skin

Dull Skin

HOW MANY PEELS DO I NEED?

It very much depends on your current skin, and intended outcome. A single session of OBAGI BLUE RADIANCE PEEL will result in smoother, more glowing skin if you have an event coming up,, but a course will give the best results for any peel (with the exception of Theraderm Frost Peel in which only one peel is required)

OBAGI Blue Peel Radiance - 4-6 peels, 2-4 weeks apart

THERADERM Light Peel -5-7 peels, 7-10 days apart

THERADERM Jessner's Peel - 4-6 peels,  weekly

THERADERM Frost Peel generally requires only one peel only with a maintenance every 3-6 months. However, for very deep lines / wrinkles and or severe acne scarring, more sessions may be required fortnightly.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS OF THE DIFFERENT PEELS?

OBAGI Blue Peel Radiance - Salicylic Acid 20%, Glycolic Acid 1.4%, Lactic Acid 1.76%

THERADERM Light Peel - 50% or 70% Lactic Acid

THERADERM Jessner's Peel - Salicylic Acid 14%, Lactic Acid 14%, Resorcinol 14%

THERADERM Frost Peel Jessner's + Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) 15%, 20%, or 30%

WHAT DO THE DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS DO?

Lactic Acid – is the mildest alpha hydroxy acid and works on the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin)

Salicylic Acid – is a very mild alpha hydroxy acid, often used in acne skincare products.

Glycolic Acid – is still a mild alpha hydroxy acid, but it stronger than lactic acid and salicylic acid. Often included in superficial peels, and are considered great 'starter' peels. Glycolic acid peels are suitable for those who may otherwise suffer from skin whitening or darkening with the use of other types of peels.

Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) is an alpha hydroxy acid that is self neutralising.  TCA can be used for deep peels and goes down to the mid-dermis level.  It can be used to remove the skin layers until it reaches the deep dermis with repeated treatments.  TCA peels should only be used by experienced practitioners as it is the strongest acid peels that can be used.

Results of all peels can be optimised and maintained with use of a home care system.
