HOW DOES IT WORK?
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator, made up of FDA approved, poly-L-lactic (PLLA - commonly found in dissolvable stitches and surgical mesh) beads that once injected into the skin, stimulates your body into creating and replacing lost collagen in the treated areas. As the final results are the result of your bodies very own collagen, the results are extremely long lasting.

HOW MUCH WILL I NEED?
The number of vials needed vary from person to person, and this depends on how much collagen you have lost - and therefore, how much we need to replace. Typically, a 3 vials over a period of 9 weeks is required to treat a single area.
To maintain your beautiful results, one session annually is recommended.

Unlike other types of dermal filler, SCULPTRA provides a gradual improvement improvement of the treated areas over several weeks as the treatments effects occur. During the initial treatment session with SCULPTRA, a contour defect must never be fully or over-corrected as fully treating the area initially can lead to over-correction long-term. It may seem that your treatment worked immediately due to swelling, and also the water used to prepare SCULPTRA - however, this usually resolves over a period of several hours to days and may cause the original wrinkle / defect to reappear: you may look as you did before treatment. Visible correction appears slowly, and you should be seen at SEBASTIAN-ROSE three weeks after your treatment for our medical practitioner to decide whether you need additional injections.

WHAT IS SCULPTRA?

IS SCULPTRA A DERMAL FILLER?
SCULPTRA is a 'type' of dermal filler, but differs from a hyaluronic acid dermal filler in that it addresses and corrects the underlying cause of facial ageing - not simply masking the 'symptoms'. This is why it lasts 2-3 years!
HOW DOES SCULPTRA WORK?
Following injection into the deep dermis (where strands of collagen support and contribute to your skins structure), SCULPTRA initially 'fills' the wrinkle by depositing tiny beads of PLLA. As these beads are then naturally and gradually absorbed by the body, your own skin produces and deposits its OWN collagen where SCULPTRA was injected.

DO I NEED AN ALLERGY TEST BEFOREHAND?
No allergy testing is needed in people with healthy immune systems who heal normally.

IS THE PROCEDURE ITSELF PAINFUL?
No aesthetic treatment should not be 'painful'. SCULPTRA is injected in tiny amounts using ultra-fine needles. Nevertheless, we offer complimentary topical anaesthetic cream as standard.
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD - OR SHOULDN'T DO - PRIOR TO THE TREATMENT?
We advise you not to drink alcohol or take Ibuprofen within the preceding 24hours of your appointment, as this can increase the risk of bruising.
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T DO AFTER HAVING SCULPTRA?
It is very important that after your treatment with SCULPTRA that you apply the 'three-five rule': you must massage the treated area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days.
Within the first 24 hours following treatment, you can apply a cool gel pack or ice (wrapped in cloth, not directly onto the skin!) to the treated area to help reduce any swelling.
ANY RISKS OR SIDE-EFFECTS?
Most common risks and side effects are associated with the injection itself - that is, pinprick redness, pinprick bleeding and pinprick bruising. These side effects tend to resolve within a few days, but can last up to 14 days following treatment.
As with any type of dermal filler, there is an extremely small risk of vascular / arterial occlusion. The chance of this happening is extremely small, and there are only a handful of cases worldwide with millions of treatments. Rest assured that as medical professionals, we are specifically trained in the anatomy of the face to minimise this risk even further.
WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE IT?
All of our treatments are fully customised to YOU and only carried out following an in-depth discussion, so this is very unlikely! However, it pays to be mindful that whilst PLLA filler will eventually break-down over time it CANNOT be dissolved as hyaluronic acid fillers.
IS THERE ANYBODY WHO CANNOT HAVE SCULPTRA?
You cannot have SCULPTRA if:
You are pregnant.
You are breastfeeding.
You are under 18 years of age.
You have a hypersensitivity to the product or any of its excipients.
You have a known history of keloid scarring or hypertrophic scarring.
You have active skin eruptions at the site of proposed treatment - such as cysts, pimples, rashes or hives.
You have any bleeding disorders.
You are on immunosuppresive therapy.
You have unstable autoimmune disease.
