WHAT FAT DISSOLVING CAN AND CAN'T DO
It can reduce small, defined pockets of fat in people who are at or near a stable weight: a double chin, bra fat, flanks, the outer thighs, the stomach.
It can't remove or tighten loose skin. If skin laxity is your main concern, injections won't fix it, and we'll tell you that at your consultation. Some of our body treatments aim to improve skin quality instead.
It isn't weight loss. It treats a pocket of fat, not overall body weight. If losing weight is your goal, our medical weight management service is the better place to start.
It isn't the same as dissolving filler. If you've had dermal filler and want it dissolved, that's a different treatment, at £125. Book filler dissolving.
THE TWO TREATMENTS WE USE
Lemon Bottle
Lemon Bottle is a Korean-developed solution containing riboflavin (vitamin B2), lecithin and bromelain, a pineapple enzyme. It's injected into the fat layer, where it helps break down fat cells that the body then clears. Most clients find it causes less swelling than deoxycholic acid treatments, and most people carry on with their day afterwards.
It suits small to medium pockets of fat: the chin and jawline, arms, bra fat, flanks, thighs and the stomach. Most people need three to five sessions, two to four weeks apart. Prices start at £99 by area. Book Lemon Bottle.
Desobody
Desobody contains deoxycholic acid, a bile acid that breaks down the membrane of fat cells in the treated area. It tends to suit larger or more stubborn pockets, and it usually causes more swelling than Lemon Bottle, often for several days.
Desobody is given as a course, usually three sessions spaced further apart, from £349. Book Desobody.
Which one is right for me?
Neither is better in every case. Lemon Bottle is a gentler option with less downtime, and Desobody is a stronger option for larger pockets. Deoxycholic acid has been studied more, and Lemon Bottle has less published evidence behind it, which we'll explain honestly at your consultation. Sometimes we use them in combination. We'll recommend what suits your area, your skin and how much downtime you can take.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Before your treatment
Your treatment starts with a consultation, where we check your medical history, examine the area and agree a plan. Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen for 24 hours beforehand, as they make bruising more likely.
On the day
The area is cleansed and marked, and the injections take around 10 to 30 minutes depending on the area. You may feel stinging or warmth during treatment.
Afterwards
Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising in the treated area are common. With Lemon Bottle this usually settles within a few days; with Desobody it often lasts longer. Drink plenty of water, stay active, and avoid tight clothing over the area for the first few days. If you have any concerns after treatment, contact us straight away.

Does fat dissolving work for belly fat removal?
Yes, the stomach is one of the most requested areas, and we treat it as a non-surgical tummy tuck. It works best on pinchable fat in people at or near a stable weight, rather than on a larger stomach.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need three to five sessions with Lemon Bottle, spaced two to four weeks apart. Desobody is usually a course of three, spaced further apart. We agree the number with you at your consultation.
Are the results permanent?
Fat cells that are broken down are cleared by the body. The fat cells that remain can still grow if you gain weight, so keeping a stable weight helps maintain your result.
Will it get rid of loose skin?
No. Fat dissolving reduces fat, not skin. If loose skin is your main concern, see our body treatments or ask us at your consultation.
How does it compare with fat freezing?
Fat freezing (cryolipolysis) cools fat cells through the skin with an applicator, so it treats whatever fits the applicator. Fat dissolving is injected into the fat itself, which allows smaller and more precise areas to be treated. We don't offer fat freezing.
Can fat freezing make things worse?
Occasionally, yes. A complication called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia can develop weeks to months afterwards, where the treated area becomes firmer and larger rather than smaller, and it usually needs liposuction to correct. The manufacturer of the best-known device puts the rate at about 1 in 4,000 cycles (0.025%), but published studies report higher figures, from 0.05% up to 0.72% of treatments, and reviews suggest it's underreported. It's still uncommon, and it isn't a risk of injectable fat dissolving, which works by a different mechanism.
Is this non-surgical fat removal?
Yes. Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical way to reduce a pocket of fat, with no anaesthetic and no scars. They treat smaller areas than surgical fat removal, and they work best when your weight is stable.
How does it compare with liposuction?
Liposuction is surgery and removes larger volumes of fat in one procedure, with anaesthetic, recovery time and small scars. Fat dissolving is for smaller pockets, needs a course of sessions and has little downtime.
Do you offer Aqualyx?
We use Lemon Bottle and Desobody. Aqualyx is another injectable fat dissolver used by some clinics, and Desobody is the deoxycholic acid treatment we've chosen.
Can I have a double chin treated?
Yes. The chin and jawline start at £99, and it's one of the most commonly treated areas.
What are the risks?
Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising are common and settle on their own. Less common risks include lumps or firmness in the treated area, numbness and, rarely, infection or uneven results. We discuss the risks with you before treatment and give you aftercare advice.
Who can't have fat dissolving injections?
It isn't suitable if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have an infection in the area, or are allergic to any of the ingredients. Some medical conditions and medicines need checking first, which we do at your consultation.
