What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler and collagen biostimulator. It is made from tiny microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral naturally found in bone, suspended in a smooth gel.
Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid and simply add volume where they are placed. Radiesse does two jobs. The gel gives instant support and definition, and as it is gradually absorbed, the microspheres act as a scaffold that stimulates your own fibroblast cells to produce new collagen and elastin. Your skin becomes firmer and better supported from within.
Radiesse is CE-marked for use in the UK and Europe and FDA-approved in the United States, and it has been used by medical professionals worldwide for many years.
Hyperdilute Radiesse
When Radiesse is diluted, it adds very little volume and works mainly as a skin-quality treatment. Spread in a fine layer beneath the skin, hyperdilute Radiesse stimulates collagen to improve firmness, crepiness and laxity on areas such as the neck, décolletage and backs of the hands. Your practitioner will advise whether standard or hyperdilute Radiesse, or a combination, suits your goals.

HOW DOES RADIESSE WORK?
How Does Radiesse Work?
Radiesse contains microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in a smooth gel. When injected, the gel provides immediate lift and support. Over the following weeks, the gel is naturally absorbed and the microspheres act as a scaffold, stimulating the surrounding fibroblast cells to produce new collagen and elastin. Over time, the microspheres are gradually broken down by the body, while the collagen they stimulated continues to support the skin.
The process happens in three stages:
Stage 1
Immediate (day 1) The gel gives visible structure and definition as soon as treatment is finished.
Stage 2 Settling (weeks 1–2)
Any swelling, tenderness or bruising settles, and the true result becomes clearer.
Stage 3
Collagen Stimulation (weeks 4–12) The microspheres stimulate new collagen and elastin. Skin feels firmer and better supported, and results continue to develop for several months.
WHAT DOES A RADIESSE TREATMENT INVOLVE AT SEBASTIAN ROSE?
Your Consultation
Every Radiesse journey at Sebastian-Rose begins with a consultation. We assess your facial anatomy and skin, discuss your concerns and goals, and decide together whether Radiesse is the right treatment for you. In-clinic treatment consultations are free, but a £50 deposit is required to book. The full deposit is deducted from any treatment you book as a result. If we decide treatment isn't suitable, a £10 fee applies and the remaining £40 is refunded.
We will never recommend a treatment that isn't genuinely right for your face.
Your Treatment Plan
For facial contouring, many patients need a single treatment, with a review to assess the result. For hyperdilute skin tightening on the neck, décolletage or hands, a course of one to two sessions is common, spaced several weeks apart. The number of syringes you need is decided individually at consultation.
The Treatment
Sessions typically take 30–45 minutes. The area is cleaned and numbing cream can be applied for comfort. Radiesse is injected using a fine needle or cannula, and most Radiesse products contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to reduce discomfort. For hyperdilute treatments, Radiesse is mixed with sterile saline and spread evenly across a wider area.
After Your Treatment
You may notice swelling, tenderness, redness or mild bruising for a few days — this is normal. For the first 24 hours, avoid make-up on the treated area, strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and heavy pressure on the skin. For hyperdilute treatments, we may advise gentle massage. You will leave with written aftercare instructions.
Follow-Up
We ask all Radiesse clients to return for a review so we can assess the result and advise whether any further treatment is needed.
RADIESSE RESULTS - WHAT TO EXPECT
Radiesse gives a visible result straight away and continues to improve as collagen builds. Here is a realistic timeline:
Immediately: Visible lift and definition in the treated area.
Week 1–2:
Swelling settles and the result becomes clearer.
Week 4–12:
New collagen begins to form. Skin looks and feels firmer, and hyperdilute treatments start to show improved skin quality.
Month 3–6:
Collagen stimulation continues, supporting firmer, better-defined contours.
Month 12–18:
Results are commonly reported to last around 12 to 18 months, although this varies with age, metabolism, the area treated and lifestyle. Maintenance treatments help sustain your results.

No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. It is broken down naturally by the body over time, which is one reason it is only recommended for suitable areas and patients.
Can Radiesse be used in the lips or under the eyes?
No. Radiesse is not used in the lips or tear troughs. Softer, reversible products or regenerative treatments such as polynucleotides are used in these areas instead.
Should I choose Radiesse or Sculptra?
Radiesse gives immediate structure plus collagen stimulation, which suits jawline, chin and cheek definition. Sculptra builds collagen gradually over a course of treatments without immediate volume. Some patients benefit from both, and the right choice is decided at consultation.
When will I see results from Radiesse?
You will see a difference in structure and definition immediately. Collagen stimulation then develops over the following two to three months, so skin continues to look firmer after treatment.
Can Radiesse be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Radiesse combines well with anti-wrinkle injections, hyaluronic acid filler in other areas, skin boosters and polynucleotides. Your practitioner will advise which combinations are appropriate and in what order.
Is Radiesse safe?
Radiesse has a long track record of use worldwide and is CE-marked and FDA-approved. As with all injectable treatments, risks exist, including bruising, swelling, lumps or nodules and, rarely, the serious risk of filler entering a blood vessel. These risks are minimised by thorough assessment, correct technique and a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy. At Sebastian-Rose, your safety is always our first priority.
Can Radiesse cause lumps?
Lumps or nodules are an uncommon risk and are reduced by correct product choice, placement and technique. Because Radiesse cannot be dissolved, it is not used in areas where lumps are more likely, such as the lips. If you notice any firm lumps after treatment, contact us.
Can I have Radiesse if I have had filler before?
In most cases, yes. We will assess the location and extent of any existing filler at your consultation and advise whether Radiesse is appropriate, or whether you should wait.
Is Radiesse available on the NHS?
No. Radiesse is a cosmetic treatment and is not available on the NHS. It is available privately at Sebastian-Rose Medical Aesthetics Cardiff.
