Traditionally, lipomas are removed surgically, which can leave a scar — particularly with larger lipomas. At Sebastian Rose, we offer a non-surgical alternative using intralesional deoxycholic acid injections, avoiding the need for surgical excision. How it works: Deoxycholic acid is injected directly into the lipoma, breaking down the fat cells within it. Your body then naturally processes and clears the treated tissue over the following weeks and months, gradually reducing the size of the lipoma. What to realistically expect: This is an off-label use of a treatment originally approved for submental fat (double chin) reduction. The clinical evidence supporting its use specifically for lipomas comes mainly from individual case reports rather than large clinical trials — genuinely promising, but a newer application with a smaller evidence base than more established treatments. Results take time and patience. In documented cases, treatment sessions are spaced around three months apart, with visible reduction — such as a 50% decrease in size — typically taking four months or more and requiring multiple sessions. This is not a quick fix; it's a gradual, non-surgical alternative for those who want to avoid the scarring risk of excision. We will not remove lipomas on the face, head, or neck.
